The best of the lot

14) A plain computer illiterate guy rings Tech Support to report that his computer is faulty.

Tech : What’s the problem?

User : There is smoke coming out of the power supply.

Tech : (keep quite)

Tech : You’ll need a new power supply.

User : No, I don’t! I just need to change the startup files.

Tech : Sir, the power supply is faulty. You’ll need to replace it.

User : No way! Someone told me that I just needed to change the startup and it will fix the problem! All I need is for you to tell me the command.

Tech :

10 minutes later, the User is still adamant that he is right. The tech is frustrated and fed up.

Tech : (hush hush)

Tech : Sorry, Sir. We don’t normally tell our customers this, but there is an undocumented DOS command that will fix the problem.

User : I knew it!

Tech : Just add the line LOAD NOSMOKE.COM<http://nosmoke.com/> at the end of the CONFIG.SYS . Let me know how it goes.

10 minutes later.

User : It didn’t work. The power supply is still smoking.

Tech : Well, what version of DOS are you using?

User : MS-DOS 6.22.

Tech : That’s your problem there. That version of DOS didn’t come with NOSMOKE. Contact Microsoft and ask them for a patch that will give you the file. Let me know how it goes.

1 hour later.

User : I need a new power supply.

Tech : How did you come to that conclusion?

Tech : (hush hush)

User : Well, I rang Microsoft and told him about what you said, and he started asking questions about the make of power supply.

Tech : Then what did he say?

User : He told me that my power supply isn’t compatible with NOSMOKE.

Heights Of all (Too Good)

15) Customer care officer : I need a product identification number right now and may I help u in finding it out?

Cust : sure

CCO : could u left click on start and do u find ‘My Computer’?

Cust : I did left click but how the hell do I find your computer?

Dil Chahta Hai

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 22, 2008

What’s with this terrible sleepiness every afternoon??? I am struggling to keep my eyes open… Playing the most rockiest and jazziest possible numbers on iTunes and still can’t stay awake… :( Is this the heavy lunch I had?! Ohh btw.. we had yummy aloo parathas today… :)

I am just typing on to stay awake.. I can’t concentrate… 3 sticks of Spearmint has not helped… 3 glasses of water hasn’t helped either… I have been staring at my system for over 20 mins now… I am assuming I was staring and did not doze away…

At this point in time, my dil wants a nice bed where I can sleep… I can’t keep my eyes open any more… I can also manage with a small couch…

I wanna watch a movie… any movie… but I am here in office trying to learn AdWords..just saw an article  which tells us what all is prohibited on Singapore Airlines.. explosives(yea right! we are planning to carry a huge set of lakshmi bombs!) , paints and adhesives (did I tell you I was planning to paint the aircraft??) , insecticides (hehe what if there are insects or mosquitoes in the flight?? will they have All Outs?? :P)  crazy ppl can get… why the hell will someone carry insecticides into an aircraft?? or does some sane person on earth actually do that?? I have no clue and I am not bothered…. I am just trying to bring up wacky looking comments on each one (not sure if they look wacky! This is just an attempt to manage and stay awake..)

Listening to Love Me Do by The Beatles… I decided there’s no point trying to listening to dhoom dhadaka type numbers coz doesn’t make any difference to my sleepiness.. :(

Not sleepy any more… just got my forex after standing in the queue for more than an hour… :(

have work to finish… so… bye for now!! I have to rush!!!

Ye Kyaa Ho Raha Hai???

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 20, 2008

Well.. I’d decided the name of the post and suddenly things changed.. but I will still call it the same.. Can’t think of another movie’s name now! :P

The thing is our hotel reservations are not for San Francisco as we were told earlier but its for San Jose.. next to the convention center where our conference is going to be held.. This place is close to Mountain View where our office is… So.. all this was provoking some thoughts into my mind… and suddenly things changed… and they look better now! Bags are out… clothes are getting ready for the trip, tickets and confirmations have come… forex will be here any time… calling cards too… and of course some homework to be done is also ready (* p.s. I said homework is ready.. I AM NOT!! I still have to read thru it and do my part of research… *)

Needless to say I am counting days, hours, minutes, seconds, nano seconds and what not! :)

Meanwhile weekend was busy as usual… I guess I’m responsible for making it busy… I just find new ways to keep me busy over the weekend… It was my grandma’s (paternal) birthday today… So we all went to meet her at my cuzzin’s place… and had gr8 time as always… I simply adore all my relatives for the reason that we are all together for everything… all gr8 times and not-so-good moments too… We celebrate everything together… Any festival, any Birthday, any occasion and at the same time we stand united when someone is going through a rough phase… I just love everyone for this!!! Bottom-line : Grandma was very happy that we all were with her and made her feel special… of course she is special but you know how old people feel when someone gives them the smallest amount of attention or importance… They feel like they’ve just conquered the whole world!!! :)

Now coming back to Yeh Kyaa Ho Raha Hai… I want to know what’s with this stoopid feeling on each Sunday which starts around 6 PM! Its one feeling that I don’t know if I like or not… Its the same old “Oh My God! I’ve to get up early tomorrow” feeling…. Then, its this nice feeling that I’m gonna go to office… I just love the life inside Google… All I don’t like is the life where I’ve to get up at 5:30 AM or maybe even at 5 AM to make sure I am ready by the time the cab comes in to pick me up… (Oh Yea! I love this wonderful AC cabs idea too!! They pick me up from my door step and drop me back here!!!) I love all the food in the office which sometimes is a little too much for me… but is still amazing…

How much I wished I could sleep until 7 everyday and still reach office by 8:15 AM!!! I envy all those lucky people who live close to their office and get to sleep that extra half an hour or one hour or even 5 mins! The point is I don’t and I am sad about that!

This is what I am thinking about right now!!! Yeh Kyaa Ho Raha Hai… rather Yeh Kyon Hota Hai!???

Chhoti Si Baat…

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 18, 2008

We got to go to our desks today! We went to our floor and sat at our desks for some time! It gives such peace to be at your desk and work from there.. :)

Its irritating when someone tries to act smart and keep harping on you that you can do very well and perform amazingly well. Its sick if they tell you how you are mahaan and they are not.. in fact are they nazar maarofying?? Its so bugging sometimes.. If you are not that good.. try to be good instead of going on and on cribbing about how others are doing well and how you are not! Common sense ya! You can’t do well if you spend time thinking and talking about how well others are doing! You have to think how you can be better.. Thats the Chhoti Si Baat I wanted to say!

Confused??? No issues! Now I tell the context of this.. someone cribbed this morning and it bugged the hell out of me… ! Someone cribbed about someone else as well and I was over there… Its sick and pathetic..

This reminds me.. I need inputs on anger management! Can someone help me with it??

And of course!? I absolutely have to congratulate my dear brother Praval! He’s made it to the Best Indian Bloggers of 2008! You truly deserve it!!

Another Friday!!!! Last day of training!!! Some ppl are dreading going on to the floor! I am not.. I can’t wait enough to go and work at my desk! I want to face the big bad world… :)

Happy Weekend peoples!!!! :)

Main Khiladi Tu Anadi!

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 17, 2008

I feel sooo good when I can think of the perfect name for my post.. now that I’m thinking of Hindi movies, I feel just too good when I find the right one! And I have a feeling that these Bollywood people have names for all feelings and thoughts a person can have.. :)

Well anyway.. today my focus is on the very common characteristic of any one.. “Main Khiladi Tu Anadi.” Everyone (I actually mean everyone) thinks that he/she knows everything and is perfect at anything and saamne waala is nothing but an anadi or a dumbo or a buddhu.. Sitting silent makes you think about so many things and notice so many traits in people! Now I know why silent people are wonderful at observation. I’ve been noticing changes in my observation lately. And this has also helped me in ‘Anger Management.’ I wonder how many of us struggle to manage the devil anger!

I was watching two people talk.. casual talk ok! I was not eavesdropping or anything. Oooh I was so amazed. Each one trying to quieten the other and trying to ensure its only a one way conversation where he/she does the speaking and the other one just listens coz he/she has no idea of anything under the Sun. I noticed facial expressions of each one during this conversation and I realized even I might be behaving the same way with some people.. Yea I know some people say that my expressions speak a lot. It doesn’t take a minute to know my mood looking at my face. Maybe true. Sometimes you just think that the person you are in conversation with has no idea of anything and so you go on and on and on… This I feel is the typical ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anadi’ syndrome. :)

At this stage anger management gets very important for both the speaker and the listener. If the speaker goes on and on, the listener gets angry(of course!) and it can definitely show up on his/her face. If in this process, he/she tries to interrupt (forgetting all manners and etiquette) the speaker of course gets angry. Who controls anger then?? I have no clue!

I definitely want tips on anger management. I have been researching a lot. I know yoga and meditation help. I know counting numbers helps! What else helps?? I’d love lot of inputs (any kind of inputs, tested or untested) on this… :)

Khatta Meetha

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 16, 2008

Little did I think my previous post would raise soooo many comments.. and frowns and what not! now i know what people think about me! Just kidding! Anyway… a different experience.. khatta meetha I’d say! :P

Life’s finally picking up pace at work! I had a terribly busy day today.. At one point, my calender looked like its gonna burst! I had 3 calender invites for 1:30 PM and another 3 for 3:30 PM… for what?? i have no clue! had a whole lot of sessions… It was Isaac’s last day in India today… (Isaac is the Chinese guy from Singapore who joined us for training).. we gave him a little farewell.. got him a cute clay bell, a nice kurta and a stole to go with it.. (he was desperately looking to buy one such set and we got him one!!) and looks like he loves it.. :)

More and more inputs are coming about our trip.. I’m tired of hyperlinking the word ‘trip’ to the original post.. by now i guess half the world knows about it.. (disclaimer: by saying half the world, i am stressing on half of my world which is mainly all those good ppl who religiously follow my blog and my family and friends!)… we are given travellers’ tips, ‘Googlers’ tips, and all possible tips on earth.. excitement levels are going higher.. shopping sprees have started and Google Hyderabad is indeed overflowing with special buzz.. everyone has an eye open for any email that comes about the trip.. just to make sure they don’t miss out on any updates… they’ve finally confirmed that we are free to do anything outside working hours provided we have our informed our POCs which is fair enough.. we’ve also been told that San Fransisco gets chilly in the evenings.. any inputs on this will be greatly appreciated..
Coming to weather, temperatures are rising high here in Hyderabad…the mercury levels are on 38 degrees… and my tan shows everything! all my nice nice salwars are out… since its summer and hot, i thought let me wear them and use them up before my mom decides to give it away on charity.. i dont mind giving them away but i spent a bomb on each one of them and picked up most of them with great liking for them.. so let me atleast use them to half of what they deserve.. :)

i feel emotional and attached sentimentally to my clothes as well.. and I have this strange urge to save my clothes forever… sometimes it takes a great deal of grief for me to part from my old clothes… :)

bittersweet or khatta meetha kinds !

Baaton Baaton Mein

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 15, 2008

I am irritated! I want to know who created the small filler ‘hmm!’ I don’t like it!

I just wish I could know who created this thing and do I don’t know what! At least if there’d been a time machine.. I’d go back some hundreds of thousands of years and delete this thing from everywhere…

Don’t worry! I am still in my senses… just a little irritated…

I realized I haven’t told much about ‘him‘… well… this ‘hmm‘ thingy…this is his trademark! I am sure he says this at least a couple of couple of (the repetition is intentional) hundred times in a day… if not in words, in chats! I tried counting it a couple of times.. and i lost count somewhere! I know people who use this very often but ‘often’ would be an understatement in his case! Oooooohhhhhh…… pls someone do something to it! I actually told him this morning that I will definitely mention this hmm thing in my blog today! :D

This was definitely not a way I wanted to introduce him in this blog! This just happened… anyway I guess there’s nothing else about him apart from this that I can crib about! (as of now! :P)

p.s. Andar ki baat - from ages, a girl’s parents have worried about their daughter’s life after marriage.. (right??? pls pls pls say yes! ) my parents are worried about his life!! They think I am gonna chew his brains off!!

My aunts… those aunts to whom I’ve always been the favoritest niece (i still am!) ask about him first and then inquire if I am doing fine!

My mom who never asked me to boil a bowl of milk tells me (TELLS) to learn cooking!! (Not that I can’t cook.. I can manage cooking… but ppl think I ought to be a perfect cook!)

Ooooh sooo many things!!! Like a perfect ‘Criblani,’ I can go and on and on cribbing about all this… but life’s sweeter now… its changed after he came in… took me some time to digest the fact that its gonna be marriage! Baaton baaton mein… life has completely changed… Priorities have changed…

Reminds me of my cabmate’s words “Arey! Sometimes I wonder how we can be like this! 22 yrs we spent with our parents and when we are in this pre marriage period, we just forget everything! We are all ready to leave them and go away!”

Go away!!! Ooooh my God!!! This very thought scares me sooo much… For all those who’ve seen me closely know veryyyy well.. that I HAVE to speak to my dad every day.. The last time someone teased me about me being away from them all in some months, I cried for one full hour… Cried!!?? Sobbed!! Wept!! and what not.. everyone from the head of the family to the youngest had to come and console me and try to make me smile.. this was a couple of months ago when even the dates and things were not known… This is the only thought that scares me.. otherwise its pretty well known that I scare others! :D

So for the next few months, I have to prepare myself mentally for this one change thats gonna take place… :) any inputs??

Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi…

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 15, 2008

So many things happen to us… from the minute we open our eyes for the first time in life.. to those uncountable mornings when we open our eyes.. so much happens.. Life ia God’s best gift to us… :)

The week started with a bang.. more news about our trip.. more details.. and inputs… and it sounds a little scary… too much of a schedule it is… but then its an ‘Official Trip!’ It can’t sound like a pleasure trip at all! :D

thats ok… as long as they leave us after 5:30 PM, I am fine with it…seriously :)

Last week of training!! we have some sessions… some training exercises.. and blah blah… We are learning Analytics.. for all those who don’t know what Google Analytics is.. click here… its a coooool tool to track visits on your website… its fun to play with! In fact WordPress has Analytics pre installed in it.. so i did not have to do that for my blog.. however, I miss out on a lot of details that I can get by pasting the code and stuff on to the website… check your page source for ga.js if you use wordpress.. Its an amazing tool… It tracks soooo much data… It cn even tell you which city your visits are coming from! Oh My God!! Its just soooooper cool…

Dil Maange More…

Posted by rohiniz4music on April 12, 2008

Isn’t that true?? You have a single bedroom house and you dream of a double bedroom house… you have a hefty paycheck.. and you dream of a heftier one… :P

Life and Dil are always maangofying for more and more and more…….. hehe i was out shopping today… and as usual.. I bargained to the last drop of sweat! and got things at throw-away prices! my father was actually shocked when I told him the rates of the things I bought. The ‘things’ essentially comprise of a laptop backpack, a handbag(its ooooh so cute!), and a pen drive! and trust me i bargained equally for everything! again proved to be a true Hyderabadi! ;)

met a few relatives today.. felt good…

had my first mango of the season today..was not bad for the start…mangoes… mmmmmm… i love them sooo much…..

chatted with a dear dearer dearest friend.. it was like talking to myself… we talk about the same things in the same way and it feels so good.. i feel terribly relieved when I talk to her… sometimes i feel like its an echo of my words which i don’t have speak out… and i wonder how she can hear all that!? does she have a magic ear?? Well.. I am talking about Sonu…

Patali, Manasa and Sonu.. I think our minds work in the same way and come up with the same thoughts about anything and everything under the Sun! believe me same essentially means same! ditto! its so nice to talk to either of them.. all my fears, tensions, joy, smiles, excitement are well understood and properly understood.. i don’t have to answer any stoooopid questions to make them understand my thoughts… they just get it right! So lucky I am to have such ammmmmazing friends… Patali, Sonu, Manasa… miss you all gurls!!

Miss all the bright days we’ve spent together… miss all the gloomy moments too!! miss everything we did!! I miss ‘us!’ ( no!! there are no tears in my eyes yet! but if i write anything more.. i might start shedding some tears!)

Yeh Dil Maange More of our sweet moments together!
